Role Overview
The Scaffolding Supervisor manages all scaffolding erection, modification, and dismantling activities on site. During shutdowns, scaffolding is critical — it provides access to equipment at height for maintenance, inspection, and painting crews. Poor scaffolding planning delays every downstream activity. You’ll lead scaffolding crews, inspect erected scaffolds for safety compliance, issue scaffold tags, and coordinate with the shutdown team to prioritize scaffold requests based on the shutdown schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, supervise, and inspect all scaffolding erection, modification, and dismantling
- Ensure all scaffolds comply with IS 3696 and client-specific scaffolding standards
- Issue and manage scaffold inspection tags (green/yellow/red tag system)
- Coordinate scaffold erection priorities with shutdown planning team
- Conduct daily scaffold safety inspections and maintain inspection registers
- Lead and manage scaffolding crews of 10–40 erectors
- Ensure proper material handling, storage, and inventory of scaffolding components
Required Qualifications & Certifications
- Scaffolding Supervisor certification (CISRS, or equivalent Indian/international certification)
- 5–12 years of experience in industrial scaffolding at refinery, petrochemical, or process plant sites
- Thorough knowledge of tube-and-clamp and system scaffolding types
- Experience with scaffold design for vessel access, column access, and pipe rack access
- Strong safety awareness — scaffolding is a high-risk activity
- Ability to manage large crews and coordinate with multiple trades simultaneously
