Role Overview
Mechanical Fitters are the backbone of every shutdown crew. You’ll be responsible for dismantling, repairing, and reassembling mechanical equipment — pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and rotating equipment — during planned plant shutdowns. This is hands-on, physically demanding work in high-temperature, confined, and elevated environments. You need to work fast without cutting corners, because every hour of downtime costs the plant money. Metro deploys fitters to refinery and petrochemical shutdowns across India, and candidates who perform well get repeat deployment opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Dismantle, inspect, repair, and reassemble mechanical equipment during shutdowns
- Work on pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and valves
- Align and fit mechanical components as per OEM specifications and engineering drawings
- Use precision measuring instruments (dial indicators, micrometers, feeler gauges)
- Perform gasket cutting, bolt torquing (manual and hydraulic), and flange management
- Follow hot work permit and confined space entry procedures strictly
- Report defects and deviations to the Shutdown Supervisor immediately
Required Qualifications & Certifications
- ITI in Fitter trade or equivalent technical certification
- 3–10 years of hands-on experience in refinery or petrochemical plant shutdowns
- Experience with pump overhaul, heat exchanger bundle pulling, and valve maintenance

- Valid safety induction or site-specific HSE training preferred
