Shutdown & Turnaround

Pipe Fitter

3–10 years Pan-India Evergreen

Role Overview

Pipe Fitters lay out, assemble, install, and maintain piping systems that carry chemicals, gases, steam, and other process fluids in industrial plants. During shutdowns, you’ll work on spool fabrication, pipe routing, flange alignment, and hydrotesting. During construction projects, you’ll install new piping systems from isometric drawings. This role requires precision — a misaligned flange or a poorly supported pipe run can cause leaks, failures, and safety incidents. Metro deploys pipe fitters across India’s refinery belt and process industry corridor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fabricate and install piping spools from isometric drawings and P&IDs
  • Cut, thread, bend, and assemble pipes using manual and power tools
  • Align flanges and ensure proper bolt-up sequences with correct torque values
  • Install pipe supports, hangers, and spring supports as per engineering specifications
  • Assist in hydrotesting and pneumatic testing of piping systems
  • Coordinate with welders for fit-up and tack welding of pipe joints
  • Maintain housekeeping and safety compliance at the work front

Required Qualifications & Certifications

  • ITI in Plumber/Pipe Fitter trade or equivalent
  • 3–10 years of experience in industrial piping fabrication and installation
  • Ability to read and interpret isometric drawings, P&IDs, and spool drawings
  • Knowledge of pipe materials (CS, SS, alloy) and joining methods
  • Experience with flange management procedures and bolt torquing
  • Basic awareness of ASME B31.3 piping code preferred
