Role Overview
6G Welders are among the most sought-after tradespeople in heavy industry. The 6G position — welding a pipe joint fixed at a 45-degree angle — is the most challenging and qualifies you for all other welding positions. You’ll weld carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy piping joints using SMAW (stick) and GTAW (TIG) processes in refineries, petrochemical plants, and process facilities across India. Shutdown demand for qualified 6G welders is intense — and Metro’s candidates who deliver quality welds with low repair rates get first call for every project.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform 6G position welding on pipe joints using SMAW and GTAW processes
- Weld carbon steel, stainless steel, duplex, and alloy materials per approved WPS
- Interpret welding procedure specifications (WPS) and ensure compliance
- Prepare joints (bevel, cleaning, fit-up check) before welding
- Maintain weld quality to pass radiography (RT) and other NDT examinations
- Follow hot work permit procedures and maintain fire watch compliance
- Maintain personal welding log and qualification records
Required Qualifications & Certifications
- ITI in Welder trade or equivalent
- 3–12 years of industrial welding experience in refineries, petrochemical plants, or process industries
- Valid 6G welding qualification test certificate (SMAW and/or GTAW)
- Experience welding to ASME Section IX, API 1104, or equivalent codes
- Low repair rate track record on previous projects
- Physically fit for work in confined spaces, at heights, and in hot environments
