Role Overview
Instrument Technicians maintain the measurement and control devices that keep industrial processes running safely within operating parameters — pressure transmitters, flow meters, level gauges, control valves, temperature sensors, and analyser systems. When an instrument drifts or fails, the process either trips (causing production loss) or continues operating blind (creating safety risk). You’ll calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain instruments across the plant, working closely with the DCS/control room team.
Key Responsibilities
- Calibrate and maintain field instruments (pressure, temperature, level, flow) using HART communicators and calibrators
- Troubleshoot instrument loops from field devices to DCS/PLC I/O
- Maintain control valves including positioner calibration and actuator servicing
- Perform preventive maintenance on analyser systems (gas chromatographs, O2 analysers, pH meters)
- Execute loop checks and commissioning activities for new instrument installations
- Maintain instrument calibration records and update the calibration schedule
- Coordinate with electrical and mechanical teams for integrated troubleshooting
Required Qualifications & Certifications
- Diploma or B.E./B.Tech in Instrumentation, Electronics, or equivalent
- 3–8 years of instrument maintenance experience in a process plant
- Proficiency with HART communicators, multimeters, and instrument calibrators (Fluke, Beamex)
- Knowledge of ISA, IEC, and client-specific instrument standards
- Experience with hazardous area instrument installations (flameproof, intrinsically safe)
- Understanding of DCS/PLC basics and instrument loop diagrams
