Role Overview
Fire & Safety Officers manage fire prevention, detection, and emergency response systems at industrial plants and project sites. You’ll maintain fire fighting equipment, conduct fire drills, inspect fire hydrant and sprinkler systems, and serve as the first responder in fire emergencies. In process plants handling flammable hydrocarbons, the Fire & Safety Officer is a mandatory statutory requirement under the Factories Act.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and inspect all fire fighting equipment (extinguishers, hydrants, sprinklers, foam systems)
- Conduct periodic fire drills and emergency evacuation exercises
- Inspect fire detection and alarm systems for functionality
- Serve as fire watch during hot work activities in hazardous areas
- Prepare fire risk assessments and emergency response plans
- Conduct fire safety training for site personnel
- Maintain fire safety records and submit statutory reports to factory inspectorate
Required Qualifications & Certifications
- B.Sc. Fire & Safety or Diploma in Fire Engineering from a recognised institution
- 3–10 years of fire safety experience in industrial plants or construction sites
- Valid Fire Safety Officer license (state-level, as applicable)
- Knowledge of NBC (National Building Code) fire safety provisions and IS fire standards
- Experience with fire hydrant systems, foam systems, and gas suppression systems
- Physical fitness for emergency response duties
