Role Overview
Structural Steel Erection Supervisors manage the assembly and erection of steel structures — pipe racks, equipment foundations, platforms, trestle bridges, and building frames — at industrial and infrastructure project sites. You’ll coordinate crane operations, bolting crews, and welding teams to assemble pre-fabricated steel sections safely and accurately. Structural steel erection is inherently high-risk work (heavy loads, height, cranes) and demands supervisors who enforce safety without slowing down production.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise structural steel erection including pipe racks, platforms, and equipment structures
- Coordinate crane operations for steel member lifting and placement
- Ensure bolt-up sequences, torque values, and HSFG bolt tensioning per specifications
- Verify alignment and dimensions of erected structures against survey coordinates
- Manage erection crews of 15–50 personnel including fitters, welders, and riggers
- Ensure compliance with structural steel erection quality plans and ITPs
- Maintain daily progress records with quantities erected and resources deployed
Required Qualifications & Certifications
- Diploma in Mechanical or Civil Engineering
- 5–12 years of structural steel erection experience at industrial or infrastructure sites
- Experience with heavy lift operations and crane coordination
- Knowledge of HSFG bolting, structural welding, and dimensional survey methods
- Ability to read structural GA drawings, connection details, and erection sequence drawings
- Strong safety awareness for work at height and heavy lifting operations
