Inspection & QA/QC

Coating Inspector (BGAS Grade 2)

3–10 years Pan-India Evergreen

Role Overview

BGAS Grade 2 Coating Inspectors ensure that surface preparation and protective coating application on steel structures, pipelines, tanks, and equipment meets specified standards. Corrosion is the silent destroyer of industrial assets, and proper coating application is the first line of defence. You’ll inspect blast profiles, measure DFT, verify coating systems, and ensure environmental conditions are within specification during application.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect surface preparation (blast cleaning) per SA 2.5, SA 3, and SSPC standards
  • Measure and verify dry film thickness (DFT) using calibrated gauges
  • Monitor environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, dew point) during coating application
  • Review and approve coating procedure specifications and material certifications
  • Identify coating defects (holidays, pinholes, blistering, sagging) and direct repairs
  • Conduct holiday detection testing on pipeline and tank coatings
  • Prepare coating inspection reports and maintain coating system records

Required Qualifications & Certifications

  • Valid BGAS-CSWIP Grade 2 certification (mandatory — must be current)
  • 3–10 years of coating inspection experience in heavy industry
  • Knowledge of ISO 8501, ISO 8503, ISO 2808, SSPC, and NACE coating standards
  • Experience with coating systems for carbon steel, stainless steel, and concrete substrates
  • Proficiency with coating inspection instruments (DFT gauge, surface profile gauge, holiday detector)
  • Understanding of corrosion mechanisms and coating failure modes
